An efficient supply chain from production to consumer is no longer a unique selling point for companies, but a necessity for competitiveness. To achieve this, the supply chain could previously be calculated using mathematical optimization methods. However, this does not include any ongoing changes or irregularities, which is why companies also use the supply chain simulation process. In this process, various processes are represented by computer models as realistically as possible and then combined to build the entire chain. Individual processes are optimized, coordinated and inefficiencies discovered. The advantage of the simulation is that the input variables can be changed, and the result can be observed in real time. This way, the entire supply chain can be checked for shifts in demand. Failures and problems can be eliminated at an early stage.
