In Industry 4.0 different units in a company are meant to communicate with each other independently through software, thus organizing themselves – also outside of their given location. This way all the machinery that is part of the production process can be connected, knowing which component, at what time needs to be worked on how and where. Furthermore, this connected process should automatically recognize stock shortages. The goal is a flexible, automated production in which the highest potential can be exploited. The connected process goes beyond company borders and includes suppliers as well as customers in the production process. Real-time demand data from customers enable a more efficient demand planning which leads to further flexibility. Individual products can be produced in a more cost-efficient manner at the same time.
