Engineering Design is a process in which people work on a solution for a previously identified problem. This process is divided into several steps. First of all, the problem needs to be defined. In the next step the current status of science on this specific topic is investigated and documented.
Consequently, the elements necessary to solve the problem will be determined. Based on this researched information, approaches for a solution will be developed. Out of these potential solutions the most suitable one is chosen based on various criteria such as costs, time and risk. Once the research stage is finished a prototype will be developed, tested and adjusted if necessary. An important aspect is that this process should happen continuously to ensure that products could be adjusted to an ever-changing environment.
